ABOUT THIS PROJECT

This guest bathroom was a complete gut/remodel project. Our clients came to us with a dated bathroom that had a cramped layout. Not only was it not aesthetically pleasing, it wasn’t very functional. Being the only bathroom on the main floor, it acted as the primary bathroom for guests so as much as it was important to improve the layout and functionality of the space, it also needed to be beautiful and welcoming. We started by completely reworking the layout; removing a built-in cabinet and an alcove bathtub. Our clients really wanted to keep a tub in this bathroom so we opted for a claw-foot tub to play up the vintage element of the design. Nickel finishes are really accentuated by the tub and serve to add a ton of interest and personality to the space. Our clients love encaustic tile so we knew that would be our selection for the flooring from the beginning. We opted for a black and white motif to keep the look really clean and bright while still adding a bit of contrast. Going for a playful pattern of the floor really balanced out this space and added a layer of interest and personality that was important to our clients.

This guest bath is a favorite because it really doesn’t subscribe to one single style or trend. It is a beautiful mix of modern and vintage that integrates seamlessly into this turn-of-the-century home. Some elements of this design are really a nod to the home’s original era and some elements are much more modern and updated which creates a really unique but timeless look. This is our favorite way to design - taking inspiration from our clients and their homes and layering in elements that mix and match styles. The end result is a design the client loves and a look won’t go out of style in a year or two.
