When I started this project last year, my clients were in a position of either moving or deciding to fall back in love with their house. Starting over with a fresh, new home seems like an easy solution, but every house has its challenges. It’s also a total pain move! So my clients called me, and we started working on the main room of their house ~ the living room.
My clients were interested in having their living room fully transformed to make it more functional and reflective of their personal style. As the primary hangout room for the family, this room needed to be welcoming and stylish, yet practical for a family with young boys. The living room also functions as a passthrough from the entry to the dining room, so developing the right furniture layout was step #1.
The design started with finding a sectional sofa that would add seating capacity while not blocking the pathway from the entry to the dining room. The terminal chaise turned out to be the best solution. This layout allowed for 2 chairs for additional seating. A large patterned rug, throw blankets, draperies, and pillows cozied up the room. We introduced wood elements with the coffee table and the record player media console. My client’s artwork and accessories were used to decorate the room, and add finishing touches.
The mix of warm and cool tones, texture and pattern really warm up this space and make it oh so inviting.
